Yifan Shen

Data Analyst

Hi, I’m Yifan, you can also call me Simon.

I came to Australia in 2019 and finished my Bachelor’s degree in Management. When I worked as a restaurant manager, I realised that managing a business is not just about glancing at numbers and making guesses. I want to truly understand what the data is saying.

That curiosity led me to pursue Master's study in data analytics, and now I absolutely enjoy exploring data and finding insights. Every time I uncover an interesting pattern in the data, I get that little spark of excitement that makes me love what I do!

From growing up in China to building a life in Australia, I’ve developed the ability to adapt fast to new environments.

Testimonials

Liang Z

Director of Liang Aus Pty. Ltd

"Thanks for using data to help me understand what’s really going on in the restaurant. You showed me it’s not just about looking at revenue and expenses. The way you broke things down made it so much clearer."

Don L

Director of LifeX Finance

"Simon spotted a gap in our reporting that no one had really noticed before. He brought it up himself and just got stuck into it without waiting for anyone to tell him what to do. The insights he came up with actually helped the business and made a real impact."

What I've Improved

Data Processing
Data Visualisation

A good dashboard is more than just charts on a page. I’ve learned to think about how each chart connects with the others and how to tell a story that guides people through the insights.

Communication

I realised that good communication is about understanding stakeholders’ needs and making insights relevant to them.

While working as a restaurant manager, I learned how to listen to different people and communicate clearly to solve problems as a team.

Later, during my internship at LifeX Finance, I applied the same skills when working with brokers and business teams. I did my best to ask the right questions, understand what they really needed from the data, and explain technical findings in a way that non‑technical stakeholders could easily understand.

Reporting

Reporting should go beyond showing data. Instead, I highlight meaningful insights that support decision‑making.

During my internship at LifeX Finance, I worked on improving dashboards for brokers and business teams. I designed reports with key metrics, trends, and comparisons relevant to daily work. By adding interactive elements, I made it easier for users to explore the data and find the answers they needed.

When I find something unusual, I try to understand the root cause and decide whether to correct, adjust, or handle it in another way.
