About Me
Something About Me
Hi, I’m Yifan, but you can also call me Simon.
I came to Australia from China back in 2019 and finished my Bachelor’s degree in Management. When I worked as a restaurant manager, I realised that managing a business is not just about glancing at numbers and making guesses. I wanted to truly understand what the data was saying.
That curiosity led me to study data analytics, and now I absolutely enjoy exploring data and finding insights. Every project teaches me something new, and every time I uncover an interesting pattern in the data, I get that little spark of excitement that makes me love what I do!
What I've Improved

Data Processing

Data Visualisation

Empowering Data

I used to think data processing was just about cleaning up errors or removing bad data. Over time, I learned that it is much more than that. Now, when I find something unusual, I try to understand the root cause and decide whether to correct, adjust, or handle it in another way.
I also stopped relying only on what is already in the dataset. If some information is missing, I look for additional data sources to support my analysis and make my insights more complete
I used to create dashboards by simply adding charts to display the data. Over time, I realised that a good dashboard is more than just charts on a page. I’ve learned to think about how each chart connects with the others and how to tell a story that guides people through the insights.
Now, whenever I build a dashboard, I focus on making every visual meaningful. If a chart doesn’t contribute to the story or add value, it’s better left out to avoid wasting anyone’s time.

Communication
I used to focus only on presenting the final results. Over time, I realised that good communication is about understanding stakeholders’ needs and making insights relevant to them.
While working as a restaurant manager, I learned how to listen to different people and communicate clearly to solve problems as a team. Later, during my internship at LifeX Finance, I applied the same skills when working with brokers and business teams. I learned to ask the right questions, understand what they really needed from the data, and explain technical findings in a way that non‑technical stakeholders could easily understan
Reporting
When I first started, my reports were mostly static summaries that only displayed numbers. Over time, I realised that reporting should go beyond showing data and should instead highlight meaningful insights that support decision‑making.
During my internship at LifeX Finance, I worked on improving dashboards for brokers and business teams. I learned to design reports that focused on key metrics, trends, and comparisons that were relevant to their daily work. By adding interactive elements, I made it easier for users to explore the data themselves and find the answers they needed.
